Freehold Township is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. It is a picturesque town that is diverse as it is old.

First settled in 1650, Freehold is one of the first townships of Monmouth County. The city has always been the county seat and used to be known simply as the, “Monmouth Courthouse” from 1715 to 1801.
Freehold has great schools, low crime rates and tons of amenities. It is a great place to settle down and raise a family.
There has been job growth in Freehold that is predicted to continue. It is a great place to live which also makes it a great place to work.
We have a rich history in the American Revolution. The grounds of Monmouth Battlefield, the 18th century landscape of fields, woods and orchards where the biggest battles of the Revolutionary War took place. Visitors can enjoy hiking, horseback riding or a picnic right on the grounds.
It was on this battle ground on June 28, 1778, that George Washington attacked the British Troops who were at the time retreating from Philadelphia back to New York. Some other famous participants in the Battle of Monmouth were Benedict Arnold, Alexander Hamilton, the Marquis de Lafayette and Molly Pitcher, who is remembered for taking over her husband’s cannon after he was killed by British gunfire. Beautiful downtown Freehold is like stepping back in time. Many of the buildings along Main Street date back to the 1800’s and even earlier.

The American Hotel was built in 1824 and is in the currently being renovated and will be back up and running soon. The hotel’s most famous visitor was Abraham Lincoln, who stopped in on his way to the White House in 1861.
Our oldest building is St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, which was built in 1683.
The Freehold Raceway is the nation’s oldest and fastest daytime half-mile harness racing. It opened in 1853 and still runs seven days a week, night and day.
Freehold is home to the Metz Bicycle Museum. They have giant antique bicycles and a great place to take your family for a fun day.
Another great place to for families is the Wemrock Orchard in Freehold. It is a country farm market famous for their many natural handmade pies.
